Gratitude journaling has become one of the most talked-about tools in manifestation, mindset work, and personal growth — and honestly, for good reason.
Practising daily gratitude helps shift your focus from what’s missing to what’s already working. It gently rewires the brain from a place of lack (“I wish I had…”) to abundance (“I’m grateful for what I have”), which is exactly why gratitude journaling is so widely recommended in the self-help and manifestation space.
And just to be clear — I’m not anti-gratitude journaling. I absolutely believe in it. I even practise it daily… just not in the way most people expect.
Because here’s the thing…
While gratitude is powerful, I’ve been taught (and experienced firsthand) that appreciation operates at an even higher energetic level.
That’s why, instead of a traditional gratitude journal, I keep a daily appreciation journal.
In this article, I want to explore manifesting with appreciation rather than gratitude, why appreciation can feel more expansive, embodied, and natural — and how you can still use the principles of gratitude journaling while subtly upgrading the vibration behind it.
If manifestation is your goal, this shift may change everything.
Why Appreciation is a Higher Vibration than Gratitude

The very first thing I do every morning — before coffee, before checking my phone, before the world gets a say — is sit down and handwrite a full page in my Daily Appreciation Journal.
Yep. While most people are faithfully filling out their gratitude journals, I’m over here practising appreciation instead.
Now, don’t get me wrong — gratitude journaling absolutely has its place. Gratitude and appreciation are closely related, and both are powerful tools for mindset work and manifestation.
But there are a few important distinctions between the two, and those distinctions matter if your intention is to consciously create more of what you want.
At its simplest:
Gratitude is the feeling of thankfulness for the positive things in your life.
Appreciation is the recognition, enjoyment, and genuine love of those positive things.
When you feel grateful for a person, object, or experience, the underlying energy often sounds like:
“I’m so glad I have this.”
“I feel lucky.”
“I’m blessed to receive this.”
There’s nothing wrong with that — but notice how it subtly implies that the thing could be taken away, or that it was somehow granted to you.
Appreciation feels different.
When you’re appreciating a person, place, or experience, the energy shifts into joy, presence, and ownership. It sounds more like:
“This is so good.”
“I genuinely love this.”
“This feels right for me.”
In other words…
Gratitude = “I’m so lucky to have this.”
Appreciation = “I love having this.”

Manifesting with Appreciation

Now that we can clearly see the difference between gratitude and appreciation, let’s look at how each one plays out as a daily journaling practice — especially when manifestation is the goal.
Daily Gratitude Journaling
When you practise daily gratitude journaling, you’re usually listing the things in your life that you feel thankful for — your health, your home, your relationships, opportunities, and experiences.
This is incredibly effective for shifting your mindset out of lack and into abundance. Gratitude journaling trains the brain to notice what’s going right instead of fixating on what’s missing.
However, gratitude often carries an undertone of thanking something outside of yourself — the universe, God, luck, fate — for having been generous enough to give you what you have.
And while that energy is positive, it can subtly reinforce the idea that abundance is conditional, external, or something you’re given rather than something you naturally align with.
You might see where I’m going with this.
Daily Appreciation Journaling
Daily appreciation journaling shifts the energy entirely.
Instead of thanking an external force for your blessings, you’re actively relishing what’s already yours. You’re soaking in the enjoyment of it. You’re allowing yourself to fully love what you have — without guilt, without fear, without the sense that it might disappear.
Appreciation is a higher vibration than gratitude because it doesn’t position you as a recipient begging or hoping to be worthy. It places you firmly in the energy of ownership, alignment, and joy.
You’re not saying, “Thank you for giving me this.”
You’re saying, “I love this, and I love my life.”
And that energy is incredibly magnetic.

Manifesting Through Daily Journaling

Gratitude absolutely belongs in our lives. Being thankful for what we have is grounding, humbling, and emotionally healthy.
But when it comes to journaling with the intention of manifesting more abundance, appreciation is the more powerful frequency to practise consistently.
Daily journaling acts as a communication tool with the universe. It signals what you want more of — not through effort or force, but through emotional alignment. And joy, love, and enjoyment are far more potent signals than simply feeling lucky or relieved to have something.
Tips for Daily Appreciation Journaling:
- Consistency matters more than perfection — this is how you raise your dominant vibration
- Set aside 10–15 minutes per day for uninterrupted journaling
- Use sensory detail when writing about things you already appreciate in your life
- Include things you don’t yet have but want to call in
- Start with small, everyday things so you can quickly build evidence that it works
The universe doesn’t distinguish between what you already have and what you desire — it simply mirrors back the energy you spend the most time in.
When journaling, always:
- Write in the present tense (even if the desire hasn’t materialised yet)
- Use positive, emotionally charged language
- Be specific about the feeling and outcome — while leaving room for the universe to surprise you

How Long Until Your Manifestations Start to Work?
I’ve been practising daily appreciation journaling for around twelve months now — consistently, with only a handful of missed days — and I started noticing very clear shifts within the first month.
Some of the goals in my journal are big, long-term visions that naturally take time to build. Others were small, almost experimental desires — and many of those showed up quickly, often exceeding what I originally imagined.
That’s why I recommend mixing both large and small goals in your daily journaling practice.
The smaller manifestations give you fast feedback. They help dissolve doubt, reinforce belief, and keep you motivated to continue — which is crucial when working on bigger life changes.
At its core, manifesting with appreciation is about reprogramming old, limiting beliefs from:
“I can’t have what I want,”
to:
“I get to create a life I genuinely love.”
Rome wasn’t built in a day. Be gentle with yourself, stay consistent, and allow the process to unfold.

Creating a Daily Appreciation Journal (Printable PDF)
What you use for your Daily Appreciation Journal is completely up to you.
Some people love digital journaling — I have a friend who swears by her Kindle Scribe — but personally, nothing compares to putting pen to paper. That physical act helps me slow down, feel more present, and connect emotionally with what I’m writing.

You can absolutely use a plain notebook. Or, if you’d prefer something more structured, you can download the Daily Appreciation Journal printable above, hole-punch the pages, and add them to a folder or binder to create your own personalised journal.
However you choose to do it, the important part is this:
Start showing up daily in the energy of loving your life — and watch how much more there is to love.
Now it’s time to start bringing in more of what you want in life by manifesting with appreciation!
