If you’re trying to reduce plastic waste and switch to more environmentally friendly cleaning products, you may have stumbled upon Filthy Clean.
Filthy Clean is an Australian-owned cleaning brand offering laundry detergent sheets, dishwasher detergent sheets, toilet cleaning sheets, reusable kitchen cloths and wool dryer balls. Instead of traditional liquid cleaning products packaged in plastic bottles, many of their products come in lightweight, concentrated sheet form, packed in recyclable cardboard boxes.
I’ve been trying several of their products in my own home, so in this Filthy Clean review, I’m sharing what I genuinely thought of them – including what I loved, what I wasn’t so keen on, and whether I think they’re worth the price.
💡 Disclosure: Filthy Clean sent me these products to try in exchange for my honest opinion. I wasn’t paid to give a positive review, and everything in this article reflects my own experience with the products.

If you just want the quick version, here’s how I’d sum up my experience so far:

The products have performed well for me, and I particularly like the reduction in plastic packaging and that none of the Filthy Clean products are tested on animals. My biggest hesitation is simply the price compared with conventional cleaning products.

What Is Filthy Clean?
Filthy Clean is an Australian-owned cleaning brand focused on replacing traditional cleaning products and their plastic packaging with concentrated cleaning sheets in recyclable cardboard boxes.
Instead of buying a bottle of liquid laundry detergent or a large container of dishwasher powder, you get lightweight, pre-measured sheets that dissolve when you use them.
The range includes laundry detergent sheets, dishwashing detergent sheets and toilet cleaning sheets, along with reusable products such as kitchen cloths and wool dryer balls.
For someone who prefers a simpler, lower-waste home, the concept definitely appeals to me!
I particularly like the idea of eliminating all those big plastic bottles that can only be downcycled a handful of times at best.

What Was in the Filthy Clean Starter Pack?
The Starter Pack I tested included:
- 1 x Laundry Detergent box (80 sheets)
- 1 x Dishwashing Detergent box (80 sheets)
- 1 x Toilet Cleaning box (40 sheets)
- 3 x Reusable Kitchen Cloths
- 6 x Wool Dryer Balls
Here’s what I thought of each one…

Filthy Clean Wool Dryer Balls

The Starter Pack included six wool dryer balls made from 100% New Zealand wool.
They’re designed to be used instead of traditional dryer sheets or fabric softener. They’re reusable, so they’re intended to be a longer-lasting alternative to disposable dryer products.
You simply put three dryer balls into the dryer with your laundry.
What I Thought
Unfortunately, I don’t actually own a clothes dryer!
I live in Brisbane, where I generally hang my clothes on a clothes horse when the weather is wet, so I haven’t been able to personally test the dryer balls.
Instead, I’m passing them on to my sister, who lives in a damper climate and regularly uses a dryer.
So I can’t really give you a first-hand review of how well they work, and I don’t want to pretend otherwise.
One thing worth noting if you’re particularly concerned about where products are manufactured is that the dryer balls I received were made in China, despite the brand itself being Australian-owned.
That’s not necessarily a deal-breaker, but it’s something I’d want to know before purchasing.

Filthy Clean Kitchen Cloths

These were one of my favourite products in the pack.
The reusable kitchen cloths are plant-based and compostable at the end of their useful life, and they’re designed to be highly absorbent.
I’ve been using mine at the kitchen sink and have been really happy with them.
They’re very absorbent, but one thing I particularly liked is how easily they squeeze out. They also dry quite quickly when they’re hanging around the sink.
Personally, I actually prefer a kitchen cloth to remain slightly damp because it means I can quickly grab it and wipe up a spill without having to wet it first.
I haven’t noticed mine becoming smelly, either.
I generally wash my kitchen cloth every couple of days and rotate between the three. If I’ve used it to clean up something like milk, egg or another protein-heavy mess, I’ll put it straight into the wash rather than leaving it sitting around.
Having three cloths makes that rotation really easy.
And although they’re marketed as kitchen cloths, there’s nothing stopping you from using them elsewhere around the house. You could use them for bathrooms, general cleaning, or pretty much anywhere else you’d normally use a cloth.
My Verdict
Very happy with these.
They’re absorbent, easy to wring out, quick-drying and reusable, and I like that they’re made from plant-based materials (70% cellulose and 30% cotton) rather than synthetic microfibres.
They’re currently one of the products from the Starter Pack that I’d happily continue using.

Filthy Clean Dishwashing Detergent Sheets

Next up are the dishwashing detergent sheets.
The box contains 80 sheets, and the ones I tested had a fresh lemon scent. Filthy Clean also offers fragrance-free options, which I’d personally choose in future.
Using them is incredibly simple.
You take one sheet and fold it in the dishwasher’s detergent compartment. That’s it.
Can You Use Dishwashing Sheets for Handwashing?
You can absolutely use the dishwashing sheets for handwashing dishes as well, which is my preference, actually.
This was actually a useful feature for me because I don’t always want to use an entire detergent sheet when I’m only washing a few dishes by hand.
I’ve been tearing the sheets into quarters and just using one quarter of a sheet in the sink.
You simply drop the piece into the water, allow it to dissolve, and handwash away, just as you would with regular dishwashing detergent.
It’s a very simple way to reduce the amount of detergent you’re using for a small load of dishes.
How Did the Dishwasher Sheets Perform?

I’ve been happy with how clean the dishes have been coming out.
My biggest dishwasher annoyance isn’t necessarily whether the dishes are clean – it’s the water marks they can be left with afterwards.
The Filthy Clean sheets haven’t completely eliminated that issue for me, but that’s really a drying issue rather than evidence that the detergent isn’t cleaning properly.
One of the things I was particularly interested in testing was whether these sheets would leave behind the white residue I’ve experienced with some dishwasher powders.
That’s something I don’t think you can judge after one or two washes, so I’ve treated this as a longer-term experiment rather than making an immediate claim.
In summary, though, the dishes have all been coming out perfectly clean using the Filthy Clean dishwasher sheets in the dishwasher.

Filthy Clean Laundry Detergent Sheets

The laundry detergent sheets were another product I was able to test extensively.
The pack contains 80 sheets, and the ones I received were the Peach Blossom scent.
Using them couldn’t be easier.
You simply take a sheet and put it into the washing machine with your laundry. They’re suitable for both front-loading and top-loading machines.
What I Thought of the Laundry Sheets
The laundry came out clean, and I really had no complaints about the cleaning performance.
They performed just as well as other laundry detergents I’ve used.
Interestingly, although the Peach Blossom sheets have quite a noticeable scent when you first open the packet, I didn’t really notice that fragrance lingering on my clothes after washing.
For me, that’s actually a positive.
I’m not particularly fond of artificial-smelling fragrances, and I tend to prefer laundry that simply smells clean rather than strongly perfumed.
So if you’re someone who loves beautifully scented laundry, the fragrance experience may not be enough for you. But if, like me, you’d rather your clothes didn’t smell strongly of detergent, that’s a definite advantage.
I’d personally choose the fragrance-free option if I purchased them again.

Filthy Clean Toilet Cleaning Sheets

The toilet cleaning sheets were probably the most unusual product in the Starter Pack.
Instead of keeping a bottle of toilet cleaner beside the toilet, you simply drop one sheet into the bowl and let it dissolve.
The instructions recommend allowing it to dissolve for about 30 seconds before scrubbing with your toilet brush.
I usually use that time to wipe down the toilet seat, lid and surrounding areas.
The sheets produce a decent amount of lather, which I liked because it made the cleaning process feel similar to using a conventional toilet cleaner.
Then you simply scrub the bowl as normal and flush.
How Well Did They Clean?
I’ve been happy with the results.
The toilet came out clean, and I liked the convenience of having a lightweight box of sheets rather than another bulky bottle of cleaning product under the laundry sink.
Filthy Clean also states that its toilet cleaning sheets are septic-safe, which could be particularly useful if you live in a home with a septic system.
I would have found these really useful when I was travelling in a caravan due to the simple, compact packaging and low-tox ingredients for the cassette toilet.

Are Filthy Clean Products Really Low-Tox?
This is one area where I think it’s worth being a little more nuanced.
Filthy Clean markets its products as plant-based and as leaving out a number of ingredients commonly associated with conventional cleaning products.
However, “low-tox” doesn’t mean “contains absolutely no chemicals.”
For example, the laundry sheets contain cleaning agents and other ingredients that are there for a reason – to actually get your clothes clean.
Personally, when I say I prefer low-tox cleaning products, I’m looking for products that avoid the ingredients and formulations I’m specifically trying to reduce in my home, rather than expecting a product to contain no chemicals whatsoever.
That’s an important distinction when comparing eco-friendly cleaning products.

Are Filthy Clean Products Zero Waste?
The biggest environmental appeal for me is the reduction in packaging.
Traditional laundry detergent, dishwashing liquid and toilet cleaner can mean buying bottle after bottle of liquid product.
Detergent sheets are much more compact and don’t require those large plastic containers.
I also really like the kitchen cloths because they’re reusable and compostable at the end of their useful life.
Of course, “zero waste” is a complicated term, and no manufactured product has literally zero environmental impact. The ingredients still need to be produced, the products still need to be transported, and the packaging still has to be manufactured.
But eliminating bulky single-use plastic bottles is a meaningful improvement from my perspective.

Filthy Clean vs Traditional Cleaning Products

So how do these products actually compare with the conventional cleaning products you might already have at home?
Plastic Packaging
This is one of the biggest differences.
Traditional liquid laundry detergents, dishwashing liquids and toilet cleaners generally come in plastic bottles or containers.
The Filthy Clean sheets come in cardboard packaging instead, which means the boxes are 100% recyclable.
Convenience
This is another big win.
There’s no measuring liquid detergent, dealing with spills or lugging home huge bottles of cleaning products.
You just take a sheet, throw it in and away you go.
Storage
The difference in storage space is surprisingly noticeable.
A little box of detergent sheets takes up far less room than a large bottle or tub of traditional detergent.
That’s particularly useful if you live in a small home, apartment, caravan or RV where storage space is limited.
Cleaning Performance
So far, I’ve been happy with the cleaning performance.
My clothes have been coming out clean, the dishes are being cleaned, and the toilet sheets have done the job.
I haven’t noticed any difference compared with conventional cleaning products I’ve used previously.
Price
This is where conventional cleaning products have the advantage.
Filthy Clean is more expensive than the basic supermarket cleaning products.
If your main priority is keeping your cleaning budget as low as possible, traditional products are likely to win.
If reducing plastic waste and choosing more environmentally conscious products are higher priorities, you may decide the extra cost is worthwhile.

The Biggest Downside: Price
My biggest hesitation with Filthy Clean is still the price.
The convenience and environmental benefits are appealing, but these products cost considerably more than the basic cleaning products I would normally buy.
That doesn’t necessarily make them poor value, especially if reducing plastic waste is a high priority for you – but if you’re primarily looking for the cheapest possible way to clean your house, they’re probably not going to win.
For me, it’s a question of whether the environmental and practical benefits justify paying more.
And that’s something I think will be different for everyone.

Would I Buy Filthy Clean (Again)?
Overall, yes, I would consider buying some of these products again.
The products I’ve tested have cleaned well; they’re incredibly simple to use, and I love the convenience of replacing bulky bottles with small boxes of concentrated sheets.
The kitchen cloths are probably my favourite product from the Starter Pack, followed by the laundry detergent sheets.
I’d also be interested in continuing to test the dishwasher sheets over a longer period, particularly to see whether they consistently avoid the white residue I’ve experienced with some dishwasher detergents.
I actually really love the products, but the one thing that would make me hesitate is the price.
I’m always looking for ways to reduce household expenses, so I need eco-friendly products that fit within a realistic budget rather than simply being environmentally appealing.
If I were to purchase, since I know I love the products, I’d be inclined to purchase them in bulk and take advantage of the cheaper unit price that way, stocking up for a year or so at a time.
I’d also personally choose the fragrance-free options in future.

Final Verdict: Is Filthy Clean Worth Trying?
If you’re looking for eco-friendly cleaning products in Australia, I think Filthy Clean is worth trying.
The products are convenient, compact and easy to use, and the brand’s focus on reducing plastic packaging is a big plus for anyone trying to create a lower-waste home.
I particularly like the detergent sheets because they eliminate measuring, spills and bulky bottles, while the reusable kitchen cloths have genuinely impressed me with their absorbency and everyday practicality.
They’re not the cheapest cleaning products I’ve used, so I’d describe them as a more sustainable alternative rather than a budget cleaning solution.
For many, that is the trade-off.
My overall impression after testing the Starter Pack: very positive, with price being the only drawback.
And if you’re interested in trying them, I’d definitely recommend looking at the fragrance-free options if you prefer cleaning products without strong scents.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Filthy Clean is an Australian-owned cleaning brand offering a range of cleaning products designed around reducing plastic packaging. However, the products are made in China.
Filthy Clean states that its products are cruelty-free and not tested on animals.
This is particularly important to me personally, as I don’t buy cleaning products or cosmetics that are tested on animals.
Some Filthy Clean products are available in fragrance-free versions.
I tested the Peach Blossom laundry sheets and lemon dishwashing sheets, but I’d personally choose fragrance-free products if I purchased them again because I prefer cleaning products without strong scents.
Based on my personal testing, yes.
My laundry came out clean and performed similarly to other laundry detergents I’ve used. I also didn’t notice much fragrance remaining on the clothes after washing.
Laundry detergent sheets are concentrated pieces of detergent designed to dissolve during the wash.
Instead of measuring liquid or powder detergent, you simply take the recommended number of sheets (usually 1 unless it’s a very soiled load) and add them to the inside of your washing machine with the clothes.
They have many advantages over liquid detergent, particularly when it comes to reducing bulky packaging, storage space and spills.
However, whether they’re “better” overall depends on what matters most to you. Conventional detergents can be significantly cheaper, while detergent sheets offer convenience and can reduce/eliminate the amount of plastic packaging used.
Absolutely!
I used small pieces (a quarter or half) of the sheets for handwashing dishes by allowing them to dissolve in the sink water.
This was particularly useful when I only had a few dishes to wash and didn’t want to waste an entire sheet.
Based on my own experience, they clean my dishes just as well as regular detergent.
The main thing I’m continuing to watch is whether they leave behind the white residue I’ve experienced with some dishwasher powders. That’s something I think needs to be assessed over a longer period rather than after just a couple of washes.
Filthy Clean states that its cleaning products are septic-safe.
If you have a septic system, it’s still a good idea to check the requirements of your particular system and follow the manufacturer’s recommendations.
For me, the products have been worth considering because I value reducing plastic waste, supporting cruelty-free products, and simplifying my cleaning cupboard.
However, they are more expensive than many conventional supermarket cleaning products, so whether they’re worth the extra cost will depend on your priorities and budget.
Filthy Clean uses plastic-free packaging for its cleaning sheets, which can significantly reduce the amount of plastic packaging compared with many conventional liquid cleaning products.
However, I prefer to think of them as lower-waste or plastic-free alternatives rather than literally having zero environmental impact. Every manufactured product still requires ingredients, energy, packaging and transportation.
You can head to Filthy Clean’s website to browse and purchase the cleaning products, including individual detergent sheets and Starter Packs.
Product ranges, scents and prices can change over time, so it’s worth checking the current range before purchasing.
Note: Product formulations, packaging, prices and available scents can change over time. The comments above reflect the products I tested and my personal experience with them.
